Auditions: Much Ado About Nothing

An examination of William Shakespeare’s play through a modern lens, Much Ado About Nothing is the first production by The Shattered Glass Project, a theatre with the mission to amplify the voices of women+ theatre artists (*see additional notes below).

Run: May 29-June 14, 2020. Performances will take place at 18th & Union (1406 18th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122);

Rehearsals: April 6-9 and April 26-May 28.Rrehearsals will be in the meeting room at Coyote Central, located at 23rd and E. Cherry St, in the Central District.

Performers will receive a $200 stipend.

Directed by Francie Mylet. The roles of Leonato, Don John, Dogberry and Beatrice have been cast.

Each audition is 5 minutes. Auditioners are asked to bring one 2-minute classical monologue in verse, a headshot and resume. Actors of all backgrounds are encouraged to audition for whichever role they identify with; questions can be addressed to theshatteredglassproject@gmail.com.   • Hero – she/her; 18-25; Leonato’s daughter and Beatrice’s cousin

  • Margaret (may be double cast) – she/her; 18-25; Hero’s lady in waiting and companion; her romantic partner is Borachio

  • Antonio (may be double cast) – she/her; 50-65; Leonato’s sister[MF1] 

  • Don Pedro (may be double cast)– he/him; 25-35; hereditary Prince of Aragon

  • Claudio – he/him;  18-25; Don Pedro’s protégé

  • Benedick – he/him; 45-60; hangs with Don Pedro

  • Balthazar – (may be double cast) – they/them or he/him; 18-30; part of Don Pedro’s posse - messenger, social media manager, and entertainment. Ability to sing acappella a plus.

  • Borachio – they/them or she/her; 20-30; a member of Don John’s revolutionary group. A rabble-rouser. Their/her romantic partner is Margaret.

  • Conrade (may be double cast) – he/him; any age; a member of Don John’s revolutionary group.

  • Verges (may be double cast) – she/her; any age; the second in command of the Neighborhood Watch

  • Friar Francis (may be double cast) – she/her; 40-60; Leonato’s spiritual advisor
